300-person Gulls' Egg Luncheon raises £60,000 for charity

News Team, 01/10/2021

An established London networking event for the wealth management sector has raised more than £60,000 for charity.

On Tuesday (28 September), more than 300 of the City’s wealth management professionals gathered in the historic Drapers’ Hall for the 33rd annual Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon. This unique networking event was held in support of Cure Parkinson’s, netting more than £60,000.

The luncheon has developed a loyal following since its inception 33 years ago. As the event was moved to autumn this year, in line with seasonal produce, guests were offered a selection of canapes, smoked salmon and cheeses rather than the traditional, ethically sourced Gulls’ Eggs, only available around May.

Rupert Phelps, chairman of the Gulls’ Eggs committee said the luncheon was a “beloved and enduring highpoint” for those working in wealth management and adjacent sectors.

“Having avoided a break in what is now a third of a century through last year’s virtual luncheon, it is with equal measure a pleasure and relief to welcome our guests in person to Drapers’ Hall, as we raise funds for a sadly necessary charity,” Mr Phelps said.

The funds raised for Cure Parkinson’s will be directed towards vital research into new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s disease.

Around 145,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s, and it is predicted that one in 37 people will receive a diagnosis of Parkinson’s in their lifetime. Cure Parkinson’s funds research around the world which is dedicated to finding new treatments for Parkinson’s.

The event’s headline sponsor was Crux Asset Management, with wine provided by Domaine du Grand Mayne.

Cure Parkinson’s said it would also like to thank event sponsors Abrdn, Artemis, Candriam, Capital Group, First Trust, Lord Abbett (UK) Ltd and NN Investment Partners, and PAM Insight, the event’s media partner.

The Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon will be held next year on Tuesday 10 May 2022. For all sponsorship queries please contact Jessica Wright on 020 7487 3892 or email gulls.eggs@cureparkinsons.org.uk.
