9th annual Grouse & Grape Luncheon to be held on 8 October at Spencer House in support of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust

News Team, 25/09/2019

For the fourth year running, the annual Grouse & Grape Luncheon will be held in support of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT), a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s.

On 8 October 2019, over 300 wealth management professionals will gather in Spencer House, the historic 18th century palace in London’s West End for a unique networking event which has developed a loyal and ever-growing following since its inception nine years ago and raised over £31,000 for charity last year. This year’s event is generously supported by Headline Sponsor CRUX Asset Management.

The Grouse & Grape Luncheon is an offshoot of another firmly established event in the City’s social calendar, The Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon, held annually at Merchant Taylors’ Hall. Grouse & Grape provides another coveted opportunity to network in one of London’s finest venues, while supporting vital research focused on finding a cure for Parkinson’s.

As the name suggests, guests at the Grouse & Grape Luncheon are traditionally served seasonal grouse and fresh grapes, along with a selection of fine wines and cheeses. This year, however, following another difficult season on the grouse moors, guests will be served both grouse and partridge, kindly donated by Edward van Cutsem of Mossdale in North Yorkshire and by Ben Blackett-Ord of Helbeck Estate, Cumbria.

Michael Maslinski, chairman of the Grouse & Grape Committee said: “The Grouse & Grape Luncheon is a hugely fun and delicious buffet at Spencer House, the magnificent eighteenth-century former town house of the Spencer family. This well-loved event gathers together an unrivalled group of over 300 decision-makers from the investment, wealth management and family office world. The purpose is to support the critical work of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, a lean and efficient charity which gives a high proportion of funds raised to their end cause of funding research to find a cure for the disease.”

Two people in the UK every hour are diagnosed with Parkinson’s. 145,000 people in the UK, and up to 10 million worldwide, are currently living with the condition and this figure is set to increase by nearly 20 percent by 2025. The disease is growing at a faster rate than Alzheimer’s, and people with Parkinson’s still rely on the same treatments first prescribed in the 1960s. Those treatments alleviate symptoms only: they do not cure. CPT takes a different approach; to seek a cure, and to stop, slow or reverse the devastating progression of this condition.

“CPT is proud to be the continuing beneficiary of this luncheon. In its four years, the event has raised well over £100,000 for the charity, all devoted to pioneering research, and has put us into contact with many new friends of the charity. The room will be packed with decision-makers and influencers, in the financial, family office, private wealth and philanthropic communities. With their help, our ambitious goal – to cure – is coming closer. For all of this, CPT is hugely grateful to the dedicated and enthusiastic committee and all attendees” Will Cook, CEO of CPT commented.
