The UK’s latest Capital Gains Tax (CGT) figures could represent a “watershed moment” for the regime, Richard Jameson, a partner in the private wealth team at accountancy firm Saffery Champness, has claimed.
In the 2019 to 2020 tax year, the total CGT liability was up three percent to £9.9 billion from 265,000 taxpayers. This liability was realised on £65.8 billion of gains.
While the total amount of CGT increased, the number of taxpayers fell by six percent.
