City professionals urged to support Parkinson’s research at 35th Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon

News Team, 01/03/2023

Popular City of London networking event – the Gull’s Egg Luncheon – is returning to Merchant Taylors’ Hall for its 35th event on 16 May 2023.

For the eighth year running, the annual Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon will be held in support of Cure Parkinson’s, a charity dedicated to funding urgently-needed research into a cure for Parkinson’s.

PAM Insight, thewealthnet’s publisher, will be supporting the event once again.

Guests will enjoy a standing luncheon in the impressive Merchant Taylors’ Hall whilst networking with colleagues and representatives from across the City. A buffet lunch with fine wine will be served and a raffle held with many great items to be won. This will all be in aid of Cure Parkinson’s.

Over 600 City professionals are expected to attend the events.

Last year’s event raised over £90,000 for the Cure Parkinson’s charity.

All funds raised will be directed towards vital research into new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s disease.

Around 145,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s, and it is predicted that one in 37 people will receive a diagnosis of Parkinson’s in their lifetime.

Cure Parkinson’s funds innovative research around the world which is dedicated to finding new treatments that can slow, stop or reverse Parkinson’s.

Earlier this year, the charity made a major breakthrough in its mission to cure the disease.

Following promising results reported at phase 2 in 2020, a large-scale phase 3 clinical trial of ambroxol, a drug currently used to treat respiratory conditions, will start in early 2023.

The ASPro-PD trial is a world-first Phase 3 trial aimed at establishing ambroxol’s potential to slow the progression of Parkinson’s.

This trial, led by Professor Anthony Schapira at University College London (UCL), will involve 330 people with Parkinson’s across 10-12 clinical centres in the UK.

It is placebo controlled and participants will take ambroxol for two years.
