Increase in DIY divorces risks ‘clogging up’ family courts

"The increase in people representing themselves has contributed to the ‘clogging up’ of the family court system,” Katie Spooner, family law partner at Winckworth Sherwood, has warned.

This is despite most of them hoping to do the opposite and avoid the courts altogether, by getting a “quickie divorce.” They aim to do this by avoiding lawyers and having a ‘DIY divorce’, however the reality can be the opposite.
