News Team, 19/02/2021

The eprivateclient 50 Most Influential is the definitive rankings of the key players in the UK and offshore private client practitioner sector.

To showcase the achievements of those listed this year and to get to know them a bit better, eprivateclient has began publishing a new Q&A series with our 2021 50 Most Influentials.

So far we have heard from Ashley Crossley from Baker McKenzie and PwC's Mary Monfries and today is the turn of David Piesing from PraxisIFM.

David is a director and head of wealth structuring at the firm. Based in Guernsey, he specialises in global wealth structuring using traditional and innovative fiduciary structures and bespoke life insurance solutions...

David Piesing

What have been your proudest personal/team achievements this year?

I am very proud of the way that the team here have dealt with the industry disruption from COVID-19, adapting to the new “normal” and providing an exceptional service to our clients.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Follow your instincts.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

Knowing that clients are very satisfied with what I have delivered.

What challenges do you see your firm/clients facing in 2021?

Adapting to the global response to COVID-19 recovery, especially in relation to how governments seek to pay for the cost of the pandemic by targeting private wealth. The ability to travel and actually meet clients in person will continue to be a challenge in 2021.

What does being named a 50 Most Influential mean to you?

It is humbling and a privilege to be recognised by one’s industry peers.

What is the favourite part of your job?

Solving challenging technical problems and providing real added value to clients.

What made you choose to focus on private client work?

The sheer diversity of the challenges faced by clients from all over the world in relation to their wealth structuring needs.  No two clients of the same.  It is far more interesting to me than dealing with faceless large corporations.

What book/luxury item would you want with you on a desert island?

A good John Grisham novel and my coffee machine

If you were not in (and it is not) your current role, what would be your dream job?

A cricket commentator

What’s your favourite hobbies/passions/interests outside of work?

Cricket, football, travel.

What one piece of advice has benefited you the most in your career?

Do not get hung up about striving for perfection. 99% is nearly always good enough. Trying to achieve the extra 1 percent is disproportionately demanding and often realistic.
