Meeting the 2021 eprivateclient 50 Most Influential: Nick Warr of Taylor Wessing

News Team, 02/07/2021

The eprivateclient 50 Most Influential is the definitive rankings of the key players in the UK and offshore private client practitioner sector.

To showcase the achievements of those listed this year and to get to know them a bit better, eprivateclient has begun publishing a series of Q&As with our 2021 50 Most Influentials.

This week we spoke with Taylor Wessing's Nick Warr. Nick is a partner in the private client group and head of the international private wealth group at Taylor Wessing. He specialises in advising ultra-high net worth individuals, with particular experience in advising individuals from the financial industry on all aspects of their personal and corporate structuring, and families with interests mainly on fiscal and succession planning.

What have been your proudest personal/team achievements this year?

The hire of a new team of lawyers from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. We have created one of the largest private wealth teams by total number of lawyers in the European market.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Never underestimate the importance of sheer hard work.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

Working with and for exceptionally driven, commercial and professional individuals. This applies to clients, contacts in the wider private wealth market and of course my team.

What challenges do you see your firm/clients facing in 2021?

We operate in a very relationship driven market. It is unfortunate that we and our clients may not be able to maintain and build new relationships during these circumstances perhaps as well as we have done pre-Covid. The challenge for organisations operating in our market will be to stay relevant and keep innovating in a digital world.

What does being named a 50 Most Influential mean to you?

It is very humbling. This accolade is a true reflection of the pure strength and depth of the private wealth team I work with each day.

What is the favourite part of your job?

I most enjoy meeting new, interesting people from all parts of the world. The private wealth sector is full of cultural and intellectual stimulation, whether that is in relation to clients or intermediaries.

What made you choose to focus on private client work?

During my training, I quickly realised that this was an extremely diverse and varied area of law with a significant amount of interaction with exceptionally interesting and driven clients. No one day is ever the same

What book/luxury item would you want with you on a desert island?

My iPhone.

If you were not in (and it is not) your current role, what would be your dream job?

A plumber as it involves problem solving where if it goes wrong you only get wet.

What’s your favourite hobbies/passions/interests outside of work?

My true passion is in classic cars. I am very intrigued with their individuality and style, as well as learning about the history of each car I take an interest in. I also own my local pub in Hampshire which was acquired for the benefit of the community (although it has not been a good year for being in the hospitality trade).
