No-deal Brexit could cost UK legal services sector £3.5 billion

The volume of legal services work in Britain could fall by £3.5 billion in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the Law Society of England and Wales.

The Law Society’s research team reached this figure by using 2017 constant prices to estimate the fall in legal work.

Currently, Britain is Europe’s biggest international provider of legal services and second globally, but services could fall by nearly 10 percent in the event of a disorderly Brexit.

The legal sector contributed £27.9 billion to the UK in 2018 (1.4 percent of GDP), according to figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
