Proposed National Insurance hike ‘spectacularly unpopular’

The UK government’s proposed National Insurance hike has proven to be a “spectacularly unpopular method” to raise the vast sums needed to reform social care.

Stewart Stretton-Hill, a tax, trusts and estates senior associate at law firm Irwin Mitchell, acknowledged that it is not surprising a tax increase has been proposed given the pressure placed on the NHS and the increase in government borrowing during the pandemic.
