Multi family office Stonehage Fleming made two senior hires as it appointed Richard Stride as head of family office Jersey, and Bruce Sinclair as trustee director in the firm's Jersey family office division. Mr Stride succeeds Ana Ventura who will now serve as a trustee and adviser to Stonehage Fleming’s high net worth international families.

UK National Crime Agency officers arrested three men wanted by US authorities for their suspected role in an inheritance fraud causing losses worth millions of dollars. The fraud was committed by sending unexpected letters to people to tell them that a long lost relative had passed away and that they were in line to inherit their assets.

International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys promoted five individuals to partner, effective 1 May 2022, in addition to one legal director and 18 senior associate promotions. The new partners - including one former eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35 - work within the firm’s real estate, financial services & funds, tax trusts & succession and real estate disputes teams.

Global law firm Withers added partner Natalie Sherborn to its white collar defence and investigations team. Ms Sherborn has joined the firm from Pinsent Masons, where she was the co-head of its London white collar crime, compliance & investigations team.

Saffery Champness Registered Fiduciaries announced that it is to acquire Cayman Islands-based Holdun Trust Limited. The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, will see Holdun Trust rebranded and marks the establishment of a Saffery Champness office in the Cayman Islands. Holdun Trust was founded by Brendan Dunn as part of a fifth generation family office dating back almost 150 years and launched in 2015. 

Friday

Central London and Essex-based law firm Fisher Jones Greenwood (FJG) completed its acquisition of Sudbury and Braintree-based Steed and Steed. The acquisition was supported by private equity firm the Blixt Group. The deal will expand FJG’s collective capabilities and services in key practice areas for the firm including family law, conveyancing, private client and dispute resolution.

Offshore law firm Mourant made a record number of 58 promotions globally - effective 1 May 2022. The appointments span the firm's six offices, with 24 promotions in the legal practice, 28 in affiliated business Mourant governance services and six in its business services team. Out of those promoted, 60 percent are women, reflecting the firm's aim to "enhance professional growth and empower everyone to fulfil their potential".
