UK government looks to introduce digital pound

HM Treasury and the Bank of England (BoE) has considered plans for a digital pound.

A digital pound is likely to be needed in the future according to a consultation paper published by both HMRC and the BoE on 7 February.

If a digital pound is implemented, it would be issued by the BoE and could be used by households and businesses for everyday payments in-store and online.
