Very wealthy population continues to increase, but women make up less than 15 percent

The very high net worth (VHNW) population increased by over 10 percent in 2019 to 2.7 million, while their total net worth also increased by over 10 percent to $26.6 trillion.

This is a sharp increase from growth of just 1 percent in 2018, according to a report by Wealth-X.

In the Very High Net Worth Handbook 2020, VHNW individuals are defined as those with wealth ranging from $5 million to $30 million.

However, these gains in wealth were not evenly distributed across the globe, nor gender. Women account for just 14.2 percent or 378,000 of the 2.7 million VHNW individuals around the world.
