Warning issued as ‘lockdown scam’ emerges

Reports of a further Covid-19 related scam have emerged.

The text message reads: “From HMRC: The third lockdown has been announced, we have been issued a grant off £240 to help during this period, visit to claim.”

It then provides a link to an official-looking website where people can enter their financial information.

Both the Google Chrome and Apple Safari web browsers should automatically flag the site as suspicious to users, but some may still fall victim to the scammers.

This is just the latest in a series of scams, as criminals look to take advantage of the Covid-19 crisis.
