Welsh government increases Stamp Duty surcharge, effective today

The Welsh government announced changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax in its draft budget yesterday (21/12/20).

These changes will take effect from today, 22 December 2020, unless contracts have been exchanged before.

The changes are:

  • A one percent increase in the surcharge for purchases of “additional” dwellings by individuals and purchases of dwellings by companies. This is from three to four percent. In England and Northern Ireland the surcharge is three percent, b...
