The City gets behind Parkinson’s research with 31st Gulls’ Egg Luncheon held at Merchant Taylors’ Hall

News Team, 18/03/2019

For the fourth year running, the annual Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon will be held in support of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT), a charity dedicated to funding research into a cure for Parkinson’s.

On 14 May, over 550 wealth management professionals will gather in the historic Merchant Taylors’ Hall on London’s Threadneedle Street, for a unique networking event which has developed a loyal following since its inception 31 years ago. The event is generously supported by headline sponsor CRUX Asset Management.

The Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon is a firmly established event in the City’s social calendar. Guests will be served ethically sourced gulls’ eggs as well as traditional accompaniments, including smoked salmon and a selection of cheese.

Following the recent prominence of Parkinson’s research in the media, namely surrounding publication of the results of the pioneering GDNF drug trial of which CPT was a co-funder, the Gulls’ Eggs Committee are as committed as ever to supporting and raising funds for the cause and the varied research avenues CPT continues to pursue.

Rupert Phelps, chairman of the Gulls’ Eggs Committee, commented: “We are very grateful for the wide and substantial support that this crucial event in aid of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust has received. It is wonderful to see both perennial supporters now joined by newer faces coming every year. In addition to really strong attendance, the sponsors and advertisers have come together to make a truly significant contribution to the critical research work of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust.”

Last year’s event raised an incredible £125,000 (net) for CPT which has been directed towards vital research into new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.  Around 145,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s, and it is predicted that one in 37 people will receive a diagnosis of Parkinson’s in their lifetime. CPT funds innovative research around the world which is dedicated to finding urgently needed new treatments and ultimately a cure for Parkinson’s.
