HMRC to tackle tax avoidance among footballers

As part of its plans to target over 350,000 affluent taxpayers (see eprivateclient 19/09/2011), HMRC will investigate the tax compliance of premiership footballers and their agents.

Following Treasury minister Danny Alexander’s announcement that over 2,000 new inspectors will scrutinise the finances of the 350,000 British taxpayrs whose assets exceed £2.5 million, HMRC has stated that footballers and their agents would be pursued by the new unit.
