Aegon Asset Management appoints portfolio manager to its alternative fixed income team

Aegon Asset Management (AAM) has appointed Govert Wessels as a portfolio manager for asset-backed securities, mortgages and consumer loans in its alternative fixed income team.

Mr Wessels joins from Credit Suisse, where he was an investment banking analyst on TMT stocks in its London office covering the EMEA region.

He will report to head of alternative credit Frank Meijer, Mr Wessels focus will be on helping the team further build its direct lending activities including mortgages.

The alternative credit team run by Mr Meijer is responsible for managing approximately EUR25 billion in alternative strategies including direct lending to SMEs, corporate private placements, Dutch residential mortgages and European asset backed securities.

In response to Mr Wessels hire, Mr Meijer said: ‘Govert has an excellent academic record and as well as gaining experience at Credit Suisse. Initially his focus will be on helping the team develop our direct lending activities, particularly in terms of mortgages. I would like to welcome him to the team and wish him every success as he continues to build his financial career.’
