Credit Suisse boosts funds range with ETF triple launch

News Team, 11/02/2020

Credit Suisse Asset Management (Credit Suisse) has unveiled a range of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), to meet the growing demand from investors for liquid, exchange-tradeable products in an economic period increasingly defined by digitalisation.

In the first stage, the asset manager will convert three existing index funds into new ultra-efficient ETFs. The ETFs will be established under Irish law and will be listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, the Borsa Italiana and the Deutsche Börse.

The ETFs will include the CSIF (IE) MSCI USA Blue UCITS ETF, the CSIF (IE) MSCI USA ESG Leaders Blue UCITS ETF and the CSIF (IE) MSCI World ESG Leaders Blue UCITS ETF.

Credit Suisse has appointed Brown Brothers Harriman to act as the fund administrator and custodian bank.

The asset manager is selectively adding the ETFs to its existing range of index fund offerings, with the intention of the new funds acting as a supplement to its current index funds.

The ETFs will be rolled out in areas where they exhibit efficiency advantages over index funds. The aim is to improve the service provided to investors that have geared their processes and systems to stock-market transactions such as fintech companies.

Michel Degen, head of Credit Suisse Asset Management Switzerland and EMEA, believes that its targeted entry into the ETF business is a logical move.

He said: “We continually analyse the market, new trends and client needs to provide appropriate solutions for our customers. The strategic importance of ETFs will further increase in the future as digital sales platforms gain greater significance.”

Valerio Schmitz-Esser, head of Credit Suisse Asset Management index solutions, added: “We have been replicating indices with exacting precision for a wide array of asset classes, regions and currencies since 1994, and have been doing the same for ESG sustainability indices for over two years now. Through our core business, index funds, we have the critical mass and possess the technology and expertise to provide ETFs in targeted investment segments that supplement our existing offerings.”

As a provider of index funds and indexed mandates in Europe, Credit Suisse is responsible for CHF 132 billion of assets under management.
