Petra Pflaum, DWS’ chief investment officer for Responsible Investment, has become a member of the German Government's Sustainable Finance Advisory Council.
Ms Pflaum’s appointment was made upon the request of the German Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy.
Members of the council include representatives from Germany’s financial sector, the real economy, civil society and science.
The group advises the German government on how to strengthen sustainable finance in the country by pooling existing resources.
Ms Pflaum said in a statement: "I am very proud to be able to advise the German Government on its Sustainable Finance strategy and to participate in its implementation together with the other members of the Advisory Council.
“Our declared and common goal is to elevate Germany into a leading Sustainable Finance location. The current pandemic in particular reinforces the need to further promote and strengthen our economy in a responsible and sustainable manner.”
She will continue in her role as CIO at DWS based in Germany at the same time working alongside council members to drive change for a more sustainable economy.
