News Team, 24/06/2019

The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has elected Nicolas Calcoen as President at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for a two-year term which will run until June 2021.

The newly appointed President is committed to a series of objectives set out by the representative association for the European asset management industry. These include providing end investors such as pensioners with the right information and advice for savings and investments, building a strong regulatory framework to maximise the EFAMA’s stewardship capabilities, and to help the European economy remain globally competitive.

Mr Calcoen is both Deputy General Manager and Head of Finance, Strategy and Public Affairs at Amundi. He was previously EFAMA’s Vice-President and has been a member of the EFAMA Board of Directors since 2012. He succeeds William Nott in the role of President.

The fund association has also elected Myriam Vanneste, Global Head of Product Management of Candriam, and Jarkko Syyrilä, Head of Public Affairs of Nordea Asset and Wealth Management (AWM), as EFAMA’s Vice Presidents for the same two-year term.

Ms Vanneste is a member of the Board of Candriam Belgium. She has held a number of strategic roles at Candriam over the past 21 years, including Global Head of Group Relations, Global Head of Distribution and Global Head of Product Management. In addition to these roles, she has been on the board of the Belgian Asset Management Association (BeAMA) since 2005 as well as on the board of the Belgian Federation of the Financial Sector since 2011.

Mr Syyrilä has been Executive Adviser and Head of Public Affairs at Nordea Asset and Wealth Management since March 2016, where he is responsible for coordinating the firm’s external advocacy. He has previously worked as the Investment Management Association’s Director for International Relations, and as EFAMA’s Deputy Director General, before joining Nordea as Head of Asset Management Compliance in 2014.

EFAMA represents 28 member associations and 62 corporate members. At end 2018, total net assets of European investment funds reached €15.2 trillion.
