FCA names Sheldon Mills as interim executive director of strategy and competition

News Team, 14/02/2020

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has promoted Sheldon Mills to the position of Interim Executive Director of Strategy and Competition.

Currently the FCA’s director of competition, Mr Mills will take up his new role in March. He will replace the long-serving Christopher Woolard, who has been named Interim Chief Executive. He will also become a member of the FCA’s executive committee.

Mr Mills joined the FCA in September 2018 from the Competition and Markets Authority, where he served as a senior director for Mergers and State Aid. During his time at FCA, his work focused on ensuring competition works well for consumers and tackle anti-competitive behaviour in the financial services industry.

Commenting on Mr Mills’ move to a more senior role, Mr Woolard said: “Sheldon has extensive experience and a proven track record in regulation and competition policy and law. Since joining the FCA he has been an inspirational leader and shown his ability to deliver large, complex projects. His appointment will ensure the FCA continues to deliver for consumers.”
