News Team, 16/08/2019

Zulfiqar Ali has been hired as a senior portfolio manager at PGIM Fixed Income (PGIM), joining the global asset manager from Fort Washington Investment Advisors (Fort Washington).

Most recently at Fort Washington, he was a senior portfolio manager in emerging markets fixed income. His new role at PGIM will also specialise on emerging markets, and his work will particularly focus on Latin American hard currency and quasi-sovereign bond positions.

Prior to this, Mr Ali was a policy advisor in Emerging Markets for SGH Macro Advisors, where he conducted emerging markets sovereign policy research. From 1994 to 2002, he worked at Prudential Financial as a portfolio manager on the Emerging Markets Fixed Income team.

He will be based in Newark, New Jersey and will report to Emerging Markets co-heads David Bessey and Cathy Hepworth.

Ms Hepworth spoke positively about the appointment, and believed that Mr Ali’s expertise would benefit the company.

She said: “Ali’s knowledge and experience across emerging markets, as well as familiarity with our firm and our team, make him an outstanding addition as we seek to add alpha-generating ideas from Latin American fixed income markets,”.

PGIM has $809 billion in assets under management with offices in Newark, London, Tokyo and Singapore.
