PIMCO appoints Nick Granger to senior quantitative analytics role

Fixed income investment manager PIMCO has hired Nick Granger as managing director and portfolio manager in its quantitative analytics division.

Mr. Granger will join PIMCO in the first quarter of 2020, from the UK-based Man AHL where most recently he was chief investment officer and a member of its executive committee. He was also previously portfolio manager of its multi-strategy programme, and co-head of research and deputy CIO.

He will be based in Newport Beach, US and will report to Mihir Worah, managing director and chief investment officer – asset allocation and real return.

In his new role, Mr. Granger will focus on improving PIMCO’s utilisation of quant strategies. He will also manage portfolios and meet with clients. In addition, he will lead PIMCO’s quantitative team and work with the firm’s quantitative analysts, data scientists and quantitative portfolio managers which represents over 100 members of staff.

Dan Ivascyn, PIMCO’s group chief investment officer, spoke positively about the appointment and reiterated the asset manager’s commitment to quantitative analysis.  “We are thrilled that Nick brings to PIMCO extensive experience in developing and managing quantitative strategies across asset classes and styles, which will enable us to build on our deep expertise in quant. PIMCO has already invested significant resources in quantitative analytics and strategies and aims to be at the cutting edge of quant, statistical analysis and technology.”

Emmanuel Roman, chief executive officer added: “Quantitative techniques are important contributors to PIMCO’s operational and execution efficiency, risk management and investment process as the need for data and technology is constantly growing. Having worked with Nick for many years already, I can personally attest to the deep expertise and insight he will bring to PIMCO and our clients."
