River and Mercantile expands PVT equities team with analyst hires

News Team, 22/06/2020

Listed asset manager River and Mercantile Group has appointed two analysts to bolster its PVT investment team.

The group has hired Alexander Stout and Laura Corbetta to work closely with Hugh Sergeant, Dan Hanbury and the existing PVT team at River and Mercantile. The PVT team focuses on three main factors to assess whether a company is attractive or not, looking at the Potential, Valuation and Timing of any investment the team makes.

Mr Stout, who previously worked at Peel Hunt as an Equity Research analyst, joins as a global analyst working across the group’s global equity strategies.

Ms Corbetta, who joins from Natixis Investment Managers, is a quantitative analyst responsible for supporting Moneypenny, the PVT Team’s stock screening system, including researching and testing potential enhancements.

The expansion of the PVT team comes after the recent hire of Fund Manager James Sym who has joined to run a range of European funds.

Charles Benett, MD of PVT Equities, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex and Laura to the PVT Equities Team. Their arrival will provide vital support on both the fundamental and quantitative aspects of the PVT Team.

“We recently launched an International Equity strategy which is managed by Will Lough and, combined with the arrival of James Sym who will be managing a new European Equity fund later this summer, the addition of Alex and Laura reinforces our capacity to support the increasing demand for our investment management services.”

Hugh Sergeant, Head of Value and Recovery strategies at River and Mercantile, said in a statement: “I look forward to working closely with our new analysts who will provide invaluable assistance to both myself and the wider team in our efforts to uncover truly compelling investment opportunities for our clients.”
