60 percent of financial advisers to retire in next decade

More than a third of UK students say they have no idea what a financial adviser does, with only nine percent considering it a good career option.

The statistics come from research commissioned by Octopus Investments, which claims the UK advice industry is heading for a recruitment crisis: 29 percent of advisers polled said they would retire within five years. This rose to more than 60 percent over the next decade, equivalent to more than 15,000 advisers leaving the pool of about 26,600.
