We are all rooting for John Maitland, chief executive of Kleinwort Hambros, who has just “celebrated” his first year as head of the bank, which coincided with speculation that it is being sold by Societe Generale. 

Yes, John took over KH from Eric Barnett on 1 July last year.  SocGen, we are told, failed even to stump up for the single candle on John’s first CEO birthday cake this month.
