There can be no finer tribute to one of the founding fathers of British private banking, some 250 years after his birth, that his memory, and style of banking is still remembered.
Thomas Coutts, who led Coutts & Co for 47 years from 1775, certainly has left an enduring legacy.
Born in 1735, he became an extremely successful businessman/banker by any standard. During his reign, profits at Coutts went up by over 640 percent.
