There is something like an air of inevitability about the likely elevation of Alison Rose to the CEO role at RBS, when incumbent Ross McEwan moves aside.

This should be jolly good news for Coutts & Co.

For Alison, Deputy CEO of NatWest Holdings and CEO, Commercial & Private Banking, is reputed to be a strong promoter of the Queen’s bank.

While nothing is yet certain, Alison is considered among the strongest of the several internal candidates at RBS for the top spot. RBS insiders say she “has huge support internally” across all group divisions.
