A colourful scion of the C Hoare banking family has just passed away, I must sadly record.

Richard “Tigger” Hoare has died peacefully at the aged of 77. He belied the image of a staid private banker, at least in his younger days.

Indeed, the legend is that he was known to arrive at his arrive in his office at 37 Fleet Street at 5am after a night of partying. (The perfect excuse I have always used in this situation was that I was “out late with clients”).
