The Online Safety Bill will be continue to proceed through Parliament, following its mention in the Queen's Speech earlier today (10/05/2022).
The draft legislation has been two years in the making and is particularly focused on child safety.
Under the proposals of the bill, social media platforms will be required to act on harmful content or risk fines or criminal action from regulator Ofcom.
The bill includes provisions to tackle online scams, such as romance fraud and fake investment opportunities, but it does not include fraud via advertising, emails or cloned websites.
