The FCA has been forced to drop plans to ban a former Barclays Wealth executive from holding senior management roles at financial firms, following a ruling from the Upper Tribunal.
The banning of Andrew Tinney, the former chief operating officer of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, was proposed by the FCA after he allegedly shredded a consultant's report that was critical of Barclays Wealth Americas' (BWA) senior management, as well as trying to conceal its existence from the board. Mr Tinney denied any documents were destroyed.
Mr Tinney left the firm in 2013, and the FCA proposed the ban in 2016.
