US Federal Reserve decides against interest rate rises due to slower growth

The US Federal Reserve announced yesterday (20/03/19) that it does not expect to increase interest rates for the rest of 2019, due to slower economic growth.

After a two-day meeting, the policymakers unanimously voted to keep the interest rates between 2.25 percent and 2.5 percent.

The Federal Reserve has changed its 2019 outlook from two predicted increases in December.

Chairman Jerome Powell explained in a press conference: "It may be some time before the outlook for jobs and inflation calls clearly for a change in policy."
