Standard Life Aberdeen hires BNY Mellon distribution head into newly created role

News Team, 22/05/2019

Standard Life Aberdeen has appointed Fergus McCarthy to the newly created role of UK Distribution Director for Regional Accounts, boosting its distribution team.

In his new role, Mr McCarthy will be managing and leading the Investment and Platform sales teams and will report to Noel Butwell, Managing Director of UK Distribution.

He has over two decades sales experience within the financial services industry and joins Standard Life Aberdeen after five years at BNY Mellon where he was EMEA head of UK & Ireland Intermediary Sales. Prior to that role, he enjoyed spells at Investec Asset Management, where he was Sales Director and head of Strategic Partnerships, Martin Currie, AXA Investment Managers, and Jupiter UT Managers.

Standard Life Aberdeen believe his appointment will support the asset management company’s growth ambitions across investments and platforms with regional accounts in the UK wholesale market, including wealth Advisers, discretionary fund managers, nationals and networks.

Mr Butwell was pleased with the hiring and felt that the appointment highlighted the ambitious nature of the asset manager’s plans.

He said: “I am delighted that Fergus will be joining the firm and leading our regional wholesale team. We have a huge amount of talent and experience across our business and the creation of a new Regional Accounts team with distinct Investment and Platform specialisms allows us to focus and align our skills and capabilities with our clients’ needs and market trends. We have ambitious growth plans for our UK business and Fergus’s appointment will help to drive us forward.”

Aberdeen Standard Investments is a brand of the investment businesses of Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life Investments.
