UK-based venture capital and private equity firm Blossom Capital has closed its third fund at $432 million, the largest to date for a fund specifically focusing on European startups’ Series A rounds.
Blossom Capital limits its investments to roughly six Series A rounds per year, with the intention of giving the full weight of its expertise to each company partnered with. It was founded by Ophelia Brown, a founder of networking group Ambitious Ladies In Tech and an investor in such arenas as P2P rental service Fat Llama and brand management platform Frontify.
Its latest fund is notable for reserving a third of its capital being allocated towards cryptocurrency startups, an area of personal interest for Ms Brown.
Ms Brown said: “We launched back in 2018 thinking there was a gap in Series A funding. Now we see that opportunity set growing each year, and not just in London, Paris and Berlin, but a lot of other cities in Europe.”
Blossom’s startup investments also include grocery delivery app Dija, payments specialist Checkout.com, and business planning platform Pigment.
