Celebrity court battles take spotlight on HMRC's approach to employment tax, says Saffery Champness

From April 2020, the IR35 ‘off-payroll’ rules will be extended to the private sector, following the introduction of new regulations for the public sector in April 2017, accountancy firm Saffery Champness revealed.

Ahead of this date, HMRC has launched several high-profile legal challenges against individuals utilising personal service companies whom it believes should be subject to the IR35 rules.

This has included:
