CGT liability increases 15 percent

The total amount of capital gains tax (CGT) liability was £16.7 billion for 394,000 taxpayers in 2021/22, new HMRC data has revealed.

HMRC noted that this liability was realised on £92.4 billion of gains.

The total take represented a 15 percent increase from the previous year, while the number of taxpayers increased by 20 percent.
