CGT property disposal figures offer glimpse into regime’s future

HMRC’s latest Capital Gains Tax (CGT) figures have received a significant amount of attention. However, one area that has largely gone under the radar is the new CGT on UK property service.

This was used by 75,000 taxpayers who filed 80,000 returns in the 2020 to 2021 tax year.

These taxpayers reported a total tax liability of just over £1 billion accrued on residential property disposals in the 2020 to 2021 tax year.
