Charity treasurer jailed for stealing Gift Aid repayments

A charity treasurer who attempted to steal over £330,000 in a Gift Aid repayment fraud has been jailed for three years.

Dale Hicks, 35, from Stoke-on-Trent, lodged a series of false claims while he held the role at Life Keys charity, which is based in a Midlands prison and aims to rehabilitate ex-offenders, an HMRC investigation found.

Mr Hicks, who is now unemployed, made the claims between 2014 and 2016, diverting the money into his own bank account and spending some of the proceeds on luxury holidays.
