Cohabiting couples are the fastest growing type of family in England and Wales, according to statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for 2022.
In 2022, 61.3 percent of people lived in couples, with cohabiting couples representing 22.7 percent of the population.
Meanwhile, the proportion of people living together as a married couple or in a civil partnership has fallen to 49.4 percent, the lowest figure on record.
