Former Real Madrid football star Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted a EUR18.8 million fine for tax evasion.
The fine - imposed by a Madrid court - was agreed in advance with Spanish prosecutors and includes a 23-month jail sentence, which the footballer will most likely serve on probation. He had been charged with failing to pay tax for image rights between 2010 and 2014.
Miles Dean, founding partner of Milestone International Tax, said that "as possibly the best known football player in the world, Ronaldo was low-hanging fruit for the Spanish tax authorities."
