Divorce numbers have seen the biggest spike since 1972 and hit the highest number since 2014. According to Office of National Statistics (ONS) data the number of divorces was up 18.4 percent in 2019, to 107,599.
However, Zahra Pabani, a family law partner at law firm Irwin Mitchell, warned the stats are a “little misleading.”
“They don’t truly reflect a divorce boom – yet.”
Instead, she said there may be a boom in the number of divorces in the next year or so, as the effects of coronavirus and lockdown begin to be felt.
