eprivateclient's 50 Most Influential 2016 - the results

The eprivateclient 2016 50 Most Influential began with an open call for nominations for UK and Crown Dependency based professionals with a shortlist then drawn up from the nominations. In selecting the 50 Most Influential, the quality and quantity of nominations were considered. Factors such as the nominee’s position, achievements, career progression and who made the nomination were taken into account. These, along with PAM Insight’s knowledge of the sector, were used to draw up the definitive list of those deemed to be at the forefront of shaping private client work. 

Clare Archer, head of private client, Penningtons Manches

Clare joined Penningtons as a partner in 2011 as part of the succession plan for the London private client team. In 2013, Penningtons Manches introduced the role of team partner, with Clare taking the helm for the private client department. In 2015 Clare was announced as firm-wide head of the department in recognition of her “her natural leadership skills.” During Clare’s time with the firm, the private client department has continued to go from strength to strength, with the department’s turnover having increased by more than 50 percent, while the London team’s turnover has almost trebled in size. Clare’s caseload includes work on holding UK assets through alternative structures and advising on complex family circumstances or capacity issues. 

John Barnett, partner, Burges Salmon

A previous 50 Most Influential winner, John is both a tax solicitor and a Chartered Tax Adviser. He joined Burgess Salmon in 2003 as a partner in the private client and wealth structuring department. Within this his areas of expertise are international and corporate tax, including partnerships, tax and estate planning, and non-domiciliary tax planning. His work sees him serve a wide range of clients, from high net worth individuals to private banks and other financial institutions. In addition, John is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) governing council and regularly lectures on tax topics. He was described by one nominator this year as being “one of the country\'s foremost tax specialists”.

Chris Bliss, senior partner, Rawlinson & Hunter

Having started his career at Stoy Hayword, Chris worked abroad with KPMG before joining global accountancy group Rawlinson & Hunter in 1984. In 1988 he was promoted to partner, and now he is the firm’s senior partner. Within this role, Chris manages a broad based client portfolio encompassing retail, trading and investment companies, professional partnerships, not-for-profit entities and certain high profile sports personalities. He also acts as an adviser to several substantial family groups and has a particular interest in serving the needs of clients in the entertainment and motor sport sectors. 

Dermot Callinan, head of private client, KPMG

As a partner and head of private client in KPMG’s UK office, Dermot leads a team of 150 tax professionals, including 18 partners and directors. With 30 years’ experience behind him, he is adept at leading teams whose clients include shareholders of private companies and individuals, trustees and family offices. He is a leading specialist on income tax, capital gains tax and Inheritance tax with experience in trusts, partnerships, investment companies and private equity investment. He has also advised on some of the largest and most complex private company sales, IPOs and investment structuring involving a broad range of assets.

James Campbell, partner, Bedell

James is a partner in Bedell’s Jersey office; a role which sees him advising professional trustees and intermediaries in the Channel Islands, Switzerland and Singapore on all aspects of Jersey trust law, from settlements to restructuring. He also provides trustees, employers and other professionals on a wide range of Jersey pension related matters. Amongst other attributes, nominators praised James’ efforts to nurture the careers of others, using his wide-ranging experience to mentor many younger lawyers and support their career progression. James is also heavily involved in Bedell’s charity projects, especially Jersey-based charity Brighter Futures, which seeks to help disadvantaged families. 

Nick Cawley, chief executive, Bedell

Chartered accountant Nick is a partner at Bedell and, for the past ten years, chief executive of Bedell Trust Jersey. Within this he specialises in the formation and management of trust and company structures for clients with United Kingdom connections, either through domicile, residence or property ownership. In addition to this, he has considerable experience in trust and estate planning for clients resident in the Middle East, Russia and Latin America. Nick is particularly noted for his work in expanding Bedell’s expansion into new markets, such as Singapore, and is said to have “transformed” the business and led revenue growth. Under his leadership, the firm has also been recognised as one of eprivateclient’s Top 25 Trust Companies for six consecutive years.  

Graham Chambers, partner, Dixon Wilson

Four-time winner Graham has spent his entire career with Dixon Wilson, working within the private client team. Over the years he has built up a varied portfolio of clients including entrepreneurs and wealthy family groups. Experienced in advising trusts and trustees, Graham acts as a trustee himself for a number of trusts and charities. He also advises a number of clients in the art world and heads the firm’s art advisory group. He is especially known for his ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with his clients. Alongside his work at Dixon Wilson, Graham is also a PAM Awards Judge.  

Giuseppe Ciucci, group chief executive officer - Stonehage

Giuseppe is a qualified lawyer and Chartered Accountant, holding a Bachelor of Commerce and LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. In 1990 he was admitted as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa. Then, after working at Deloitte & Touche in South Africa, Guiseppe joined Stonehage’s Neuchâtel office in 1991. In 1995, he was transferred to the firm’s London office and made director. He was appointed as Stonehage’s chief executive in 1997.

Jonathan Conder, head of private client, Macfarlanes

Jonathan is Macfarlanes’ head of private client. Alongside leading the department, Jonathan’s work sees him advise UK and international private clients and trustees on all aspects of tax, trust, estate and succession planning and philanthropic matters. Having studied law at the University of Durham, Jonathan trained and qualified at Freshfields Bruchhause Deringer and later spent four years as an in-house counsel at The Bank of Bermuda before joined Macfarlanes in 1992. In addition to his daily role, Jonathan regularly lectures at UK and overseas conferences and contributes to industry journals. 

Ashley Crossley, head of wealth management, Baker & McKenzie

Baker & McKenzie’s head of private wealth, Ashley, is law graduate from Oxford University. He has been a partner at the firm for over ten years and is also chair of its Europe and Middle East wealth management practice group and a member of its global wealth management steering committee. Ashley specialises in advising high net worth clients - particularly those from Russia/CIS and the Middle East - on cross-border trust and tax-related issues. He also advises governments and global financial institutions on compliance and regulatory issues, including disclosure and exchange of information.

Joss Dalrymple, partner and head of private client tax services, Smith & Williamson

Winning for the fourth consecutive year, Joss is a partner and head of Smith & Williamson’s national private client tax services practice. He specialises in looking after landed estates, farms, trusts, high net worth families and individuals. He is also active in providing family office services for a number of clients. In addition, he acts as a trustee and executor for families. Joss is a member of Smith & Williamson’s landed estates, bloodstock and equine groups.

Sheila Dean, global chief executive, Equiom Group

When Sheila took on the role of managing director in 2006, she was responsible for leading the management buy-out which formed Equiom. In the years since, she has become the firm’s global chief executive  with responsibility for strategic direction and operational control and has led many successful acquisitions. With 20 years’ experience behind her, Sheila specialises in implementing and managing trust and company structures and manages a portfolio of long standing high net worth clients.  She also has extensive relationships with Equiom’s key professional intermediaries driving the development of Equiom’s core and niche business lines worldwide.

Alexander Dickinson, partner, Bond Dickinson

Alexander has been a partner in private wealth at Bond Dickinson since 1997 and is the lead partner for many of the firm’s largest clients. Since 2012 he has spearheaded the firm’s private client offering in London and the South East, which he has expanded in the past year with the recruitment of a second London partner and several significant client wins. Alexander specialises in advising UK based clients, particularly those with real estate assets, but he also has expertise in the areas of personal tax, wills and trusts. Alexander chairs private family offices, acts as trustee of private and charitable trusts and as a director of private companies.

Greg Ellison, chief executive, Boston Group 

Greg began his career as a financial adviser at Halifax and went on to spend five years at Barclays, including as managing director. In 2011, Greg was appointed to lead all the operations of multi family office Boston Group, assuming the role of chief executive. He holds the Institute of Directors Diploma in Company Direction, a BSc (Hons) in Business Studies and an MBA from Henley Management College. Outside of the office, Greg enjoys playing sport and travelling. 

Ceris Gardner, partner, Maurice Turnor Gardner

Ceris founded Maurice Turnor Gardner in 2009 with fellow colleagues from Allen and Overy’s private client department. Now, as partner, her daily work sees her advise UK and non-UK domiciled and resident individuals, families, estates and trustees on UK and international tax and succession issues, establishing UK and offshore trusts, family limited partnerships and other cross border asset-holding structures. She also has a wealth of experience advising on immigration, philanthropy and art and heritage property matters and is a member of the Charity Law Association and a trustee of Crimestoppers and Philanthropy Impact.

Toby Graham, partner and head of the contentious trusts & estates group, Farrer & Co

Toby is head of Farrer & Co’s contentious trusts and estates group, specialising in contentious trusts and estates, usually of high value with international elements. He has been involved in trusts disputes before courts in England, The Bahamas, Bermuda, BVI, Cayman, Cyprus, Guernsey, Jersey, Singapore, Switzerland and TCI and has experience of a broad range of disputes such as third party claims; validity issues; breach of trust; and disputes over investment performance. In addition, Toby is co-editor of Trusts & Trustees published by Oxford University Press.

Helen Green, director, Saffery Champness Registered Fiduciaries

Helen joined Saffery Champness in London in 1984, becoming a partner in 1997 and relocating to Guernsey in 2000. Helen is now responsible for client liaison within Saffery Champness’ Guernsey office, heading up a team that specialises in the formation and management of trust and company structures for both private and corporate clients. Over the years she has established herself as an expert in the private client field and was recently appointed as receiver in a high profile complex insolvency case involving the receivership of £200 million of trust assets.  A nominee said that this case has showed her skill and strong character in ensuring that all parties co-operate with her to achieve the best outcome for the creditors of the Trust.  Helen also sits on the board of Saffery Champness as well as various other boards.

James Hender, head of private client, Saffery Champness

Cambridge graduate James also studied at Harvard Business School before working at two of the Big Four accountancy firms. In 2003 he was appointed as a director at Smith & Williamson and in 2012 he joined Saffery Champness, where he heads the private client team. His work nowadays tends to be focused on non-domiciled clients and establishing tax efficient strategies for non-UK situs assets. He also has many years of experience in advising high net worth clients in the financial services sector, including senior bankers, hedge fund managers and private equity specialists, as well as entrepreneurs.  

Elizabeth Henson, senior tax partner and head of private client and private business - London, PwC

Elizabeth Henson is a senior tax partner at PwC and head of the firm’s private client and private business team in London. She has 25 years experience working with some of the wealthiest families from Europe and the Middle East as well as other emerging markets. She has a particular focus on international entrepreneurs and is founder of PwC London’s International Entrepreneurs team, which specialises in giving international private client advice and doing corporate tax planning for entrepreneurial companies with activities and assets cross border. Elizabeth studied at Rhodes University in South Africa. 

Paula Higgleton, partner, Deloitte

Paula is a senior partner in the private client practice at Deloitte, as well as being head of the family office team after joining the firm in 2001 and being made private client head in 2008. Clients of Paula’s include private individuals and entrepreneurs based in the UK and overseas, with a strong emphasis on non-UK domiciled and internationally mobile individuals and family offices. Additionally she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and is a sought after speaker and commentator on private wealth industry related issues. Paula is also a member of the judging panel for the annual PAM Awards.

Andrew Hine, partner and head of private client, Taylor Wessing

Andrew is head of Taylor Wessing\'s private client department and nominators describe him as being “long recognised as a leading practitioner in his field”. His practice covers all areas of private client work but he is particularly well regarded for his work on contentious matters.  He advises clients, both resident and domiciled in the UK and overseas, on tax matters and has extensive experience in advising trustees and beneficiaries on all trust matters, both domestic and offshore, and related issues. He is also experienced in the areas of probate, succession and wills.  Andrew was previously named as a 50 Most influential last year. 

Paul Hodgson, managing director – Butterfield Trust

Having studied in Queensland, Paul spent 10 years at KPMG in Australia – and a stint in Hong Kong - before joining Butterfield Trust in Guernsey in 1998. Since then he has progressed up the ranks from client relationship manager to director and, as of 2003, managing director. Paul regularly speaks at industry conferences on wealth structuring and fiduciary services. He is a committee member of the Guernsey branch of STEP and is also a deputy chairman of the Guernsey Association of Trustees.

Jonathan Jennings, managing director, TMF Group

Jonathan has been managing director of TMF’s Jersey arm from January 2014 to November 2015, where he has since moved to TMF’s Luxembourg office as managing director. His specialities include Employee Benefit Trusts (EBTs), Employer Financed Retirement Benefit Schemes (EFRBS), private discretionary trusts, regulated and unregulated funds and regulated and unregulated fund managers. Prior to TMF, Jonathan began his career at ABN AMRO Trust Company Jersey Limited from 1999-2001. He has since been vice president of international fiduciary services at JPMorgan Chase, and director of Dominion Fiduciary Services Limited.

Iain Johns, group head of private client services, JTC Group

Iain, group head of private client services at JTC Group, is a three-time winner of the 50 Most Influential award. He has wide-ranging experience dealing with the financial affairs of some of the world’s wealthiest families and, as group head, is responsible for the internationalisation of JTC and expansion into new and existing regions. Prior to joining JTC in 2012, Iain was global head of private clients for TMF Group (formerly Equity Trust) and a member of TMF’s global executive committee. He was also the managing director of the company’s Jersey office. Outside of work Iain has a passion for running and has completed several marathons. 

David Kilshaw, senior partner – private client, EY

EY senior partner David has over 30 years’ tax experience under his belt. His focus this year has been on building EY’s London and Cambridge practices, in particular the family office and family business offering. David also has a keen focus on coaching and developing the next generation within EY. He strives to be a brand ambassador of the firm and, along with his team in the Wealth Advisors Network and Wealth Advisors Forum, contributes to regular newsletters and seminars. Nominators this year described David as being “excellent at adapting his style to the needs of the client” as demonstrated by “just how many clients consider David\'s input to be an essential part of their business and investment decisions.”

Philip Le Cornu, group director, Elian

A former partner of Ogier, and instrumental in the management buyout of the fiduciary services business, Philip is group director of Elian Private Wealth with responsibility for the teams across Jersey, Guernsey, Cayman, the Middle East and Hong Kong. As well as having overall responsibility for Elian Private Wealth, Philip acts on a number of complex, multi-jurisdiction structures for UHNW individuals. Philip’s nominators described him as having established a “strong reputation as one of the most client focused and trusted practitioners in his field” and praised him for setting a standard of excellence within Elian. Philip is a member of STEP, the Jersey Law Society and the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple of England.  

Greg Limb, partner, KPMG

Greg has been a partner at KPMG since 2008 and is head of the firm’s private client advisory team in London. He has over 25 years of practical tax experience and specialises in advising individuals, family offices (both UK and international), entrepreneurs, shareholders and private equity executives on their personal tax issues. His nominators see him as being particularly strong at advising on resident non dom and entrepreneurial issues and said that it is his ability to “communicate effectively” and build strong and lasting relationships with clients from all backgrounds that has enabled him to build a strong and successful career.

Lesley Lintott, senior counsel, Penningtons Manches

Lesley was Pennington Manches first woman partner and one of its youngest, appointed at age 28. She went on to serve as managing partner of the firm’s private client group for 11 years, before returning to fulltime client work. Under her leadership, the private client practice grew in terms of turnover and personnel, as well as in its client numbers. Lesley was also described by her nominator as always being “prepared to go the extra mile in assisting younger members of her department”. Her influence extends to those in managerial roles at the firm, too, with colleagues describing her as “the person to seek out for solutions to difficult problems, and to provide wise counsel, based on years of experience and an innate sense of good judgement.”

Sara Maccallum, senior partner, Boodle Hatfield

Sara is both a senior partner at Boodle Hatfield as well as being head of the commercial tax group since 2011. She has been advising private clients at Boodle Hatfield for over fifteen years and specialises in integrating the tax requirements of their business life into their overall planning strategies. She also provides full service transactional advice and commercial tax planning advice to private clients who are owner-managers or stakeholders in family businesses, whether they hold their interests through onshore or offshore vehicles, as well as trust companies, property developers, investors and entrepreneurs. She is a member of the Tax Committee of the British Property Federation, and was described by a nominator this year as having “technical excellence, commercial vision and approachability, making her clients immensely loyal.” 

Steve Meiklejohn, partner, Ogier

A previous 50 Most Influential winner, Steve is an adviser to trustees and private clients in respect of trust and fiduciary structures. In addition to acting for a range of significant private clients on their estate planning, Steve advises trustees on complex trust questions. Located in Jersey, Steve is a partner in Ogier’s trusts advisory group and is also involved in establishing new and innovative charitable and philanthropic structures in anticipation of Jersey’s new Charities Law coming into full effect. He also works in advising trustees on the establishment of employee incentive and pension structures. Steve is a former chairman of STEP Jersey. 

Patricia Milner, co-head of wealth planning, Withers

Another previous winner of the Top 50 Most Influential, Patricia is partner and co-head of Withers’ wealth planning team. She covers tax, trust and estate planning for both UK and non-UK resident and domiciled individuals and their families. Having jointly established Withers\' international family office practice group, Patricia also advises families and landed estates on governance and capital tax issues, as well as succession and education matters. 

Filippo Noseda, co-head of wealth planning, Withers

Filippo is a dual qualified English solicitor and Swiss lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) and advises clients on international tax and estate planning issues. Advising on the establishment and restructuring of both trusts and foundations, as well as on UK and international tax issues, he approaches both common law and civil law issues from a practical perspective His areas of specialism include; UK and international tax, taxation of UK property, international relocation, tax compliance trusts and foundations (advisory and contentious), international Wills and probate, generational succession planning and family governance. Filippo also advised several governments with regards to the introduction of foundations’ laws and has recently advised a EU territory on their personal tax residence offering. 

Kevin O’Connell, group commercial director, First Names Group

An Irish-qualified solicitor, Kevin joined the company as director in 1995 and held a variety of key roles in the business, including that of managing director in Jersey, over the following years.  In 2012, aged just 43, he was appointed group commercial director. As commercial director, his main focus is to drive the organic growth strategy for the group, supported by the business development and marketing teams. He also provides strategic direction on new acquisitions, particularly from a due diligence perspective. Kevin has a law degree from the National University of Ireland, and although he\'s not currently practising, he also has a diploma in property tax awarded by The Law Society in Dublin. He is described as ”one of the most respected directors in the group, a true reflection of both his character and work ethic.”

Christopher Page, senior partner, Charles Russell Speechlys

After leading the Cheltenham office and private client team for many years, Christopher was elected as senior partner in 2013, and is now senior partner of Charles Russell Speechlys and chairs its partnership council. Christopher is a private client lawyer, specialising in tax and estate succession planning and management, particularly for owners of landed estates, of large farms and of other rural businesses. His team acts for over fifty substantial landed estates throughout England and Wales.  The team\'s land owning clients include individuals, charities, companies and trustees. Complex tax and trust matters arising from many different and sophisticated ownership and occupation structures form the backbone of his practice

Bart Peerless, head of private client, Charles Russell Speechlys

Another previous 50 Most Influential winner, Bart was named as the new firm’s head of private client following the completion of the merger between Charles Russell and Speechly Bircham. Before this, Bart was a partner at Charles Russell. He advises individuals, trustees and beneficiaries, based in both the UK and abroad, in relation to tax, succession and estate planning (including in particular on the use of trusts and other asset holding vehicles, both in the UK and in other jurisdictions). His clients include some of the world’s wealthiest families; in particular, he advises many UK and international business people and substantial landowners and frequently has to deal with cross border tax and succession issues in the course of this work. He also acts for a large number of Charitable Trusts and is a trustee of several charities.

Mark Pesco, managing director, First Names Group

Mark’s career began with PwC in Jersey where he qualified as a chartered accountant before moving on to gain international experience in Singapore, Melbourne and London. He returned to Jersey in 2004 to join the Langtry Trust Group and was appointed to partner within 12 months. In 2005 Mark led the sale of Langtry to IFG International, and in 2008 he was appointed managing director for Jersey. In 2012, when IFG International underwent an MBO and emerged as First Names Group, Mark was an “avid ambassador” of the change and played an active role in crafting the new group’s people-focused culture and encouraging team buy-in to the company’s new direction. In recognition of his strong leadership and commitment to the group DNA, Mark was promoted again in 2014, this time to group managing director, private client. Mark now oversees over 350 staff including all private client teams throughout 14 locations.

James Quarmby, head of private client, Stephenson Harwood

James has been a leading tax lawyer for many years and is well known in the offshore industry, particularly through his public speaking and writing, including his blogs (‘Thomas the Tax Engine’ before and ‘Capital Letters’ now). His appointment as head of private wealth at Stephenson Harwood caused a lot of interest in the profession, as they were the first City firm to go against the trend and return to private wealth. He is described by his nominators as ”one of the most influential private client lawyers and I have never been disappointed with anything James has done for me, my colleagues or our clients.” 

Eason Rajah QC, barrister, 10 Old Square

Eason was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1989 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011. He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1991. Eason’s practice is chancery litigation and advisory work in the UK and offshore, including domestic, off shore and cross-border trust and will disputes, related tax and professional negligence issues, drafting, structuring and advising in relation to trusts, succession planning and tax and related areas. He also acts in disputes related to offshore trusts & structures in matrimonial proceedings. Eason is Hon. Secretary to the Chancery Bar Association and a member of the committee of STEP Central London. He is a member of ACTAPs and the Charity Law Association.

Steve Romeril, head of trust - British Isles, RBC Trust Company (International) Limited

In his capacity as head of trust, British Isles at RBC, Steve is responsible for the company’s trust operations in Jersey, Guernsey and London, which together forms one of the world’s largest trust operations. He is a member of RBC’s global trust advisory board, which oversees RBC’s global trust business. Steve joined RBC in 2005, following the company’s acquisition of Abacus, where he was head of fiduciary services and wealth planning. He assumed his current role in 2007 and works alongside the heads of RBC’s other trust subsidiaries around the world with the aim of continually strengthening RBC’s trust services and ensuring our continued success as market leader. Steve is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and the Association of Accounting Technicians, and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Simon Rylatt, head of private client, Boodle Hatfield

Simon is head of Boodle Hatfield’s private client and tax department and advises individuals, trustees and companies on high value disputes, both onshore and offshore. He has significant experience of different legal systems and the difficulties that can arise when they interact. He also advises on long term planning strategies for wealthy families and their businesses/assets, including wealth protection structures, corporate and family governance, divorce issues, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and generational succession planning. He has been described as “thoughtful, collegiate and constructive” by his nominators.

Ali Sarikhani, Chairman, Saffron Tax Partners 

Ali is a qualified chartered accountant, having trained in practice with what is now Ernst & Young. He was made a partner of the Tehran practice in 1976 at the age of 29 and subsequently, in 1980, set up his own practice in London. The business was acquired by UBS in 1986 and grew with the acquisitions of Williams Jeffery Barber Limited in 1987 and Chiltern Limited in 1997. In 1997, following a buy out from UBS, the group was re-launched as Chiltern Group plc and grew substantially, servicing around 10,000 clients. In 2005 a divestment program was initiated, which resulted in the sale of the business following a series of disposals. Ali has interests in several other businesses including Tuxedo Money Solutions, a pre-paid debit card business, and is also involved in NLP who are a partnership of independent financial advisers

Paul Schreibke, managing director, Intertrust

Paul joined the Intertrust Group in 1991 and was appointed a director in 1999.  Paul was the head of the firm’s trust and tax departments, and was appointed as managing director in June 2013.  He specialises in a range of offshore structures, notably trusts with UK resident settlors and/or beneficiaries and with UK property structures. Paul also has particular responsibility for developing business in the CIS region. He is a chartered tax adviser, as well as being a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners

Daniel Simon, senior partner, Collyer Bristow

Daniel is a member of Collyer Bristow’s tax and estate planning team. For 21 years he has advised on all aspects of UK and offshore tax, trust and estate planning and charity law, and most recently his specialty has been in UK and US planning as well as providing Swiss, French, Italian and Indian cross border advice. His areas of practice include overseas and domestic trusts, wills and estates together with related tax planning, particularly complex, cross-border planning. He regularly advises Swiss-based institutions and their clients and helped establish the firm\'s Geneva office, and he also leads the advisory service for US clients and advises beneficiaries, executors and trustees on contested wills and trusts. Daniel advises charities, from small family trusts to national institutions, and his style of practice is “to find creative yet practical solutions to his clients’ concerns.

Daniel Sopher, chief executive, Sopher + Co

After becoming partner at Sopher + Co in 2010, he has been running the firm since 2014. Daniel specialises in both corporate and personal tax, advising a number of entrepreneurial businesses and their owners. His knowledge and experience spans multiple sectors and he has been involved in a number of corporate transactions. Daniel also has special expertise in personal taxation, in particular advising non-domiciled individuals. 

Jonathan Speck, managing partner, Mourant Ozannes

After joining Mourant Ozannes in 1991, Jonathan Speck was joint head of international trusts and private client in Jersey and has been a partner at the firm since 1996. Since being made managing partner in April 2014, Jonathan specialises in commercial litigation, principally involving contentious and non-contentious trust cases, about which he has written and lectured around the world He is a committee member of STEP’s Contentious Trusts & Estates Special Interest Group, and is noted by colleagues as being “personable, always offering calm and assuring advice even in the toughest of situations.” 

Jane Pearce, managing director – Jersey, Vistra 

Jane joined Vistra as the managing director of the Jersey office in June 2015, and currently leads the corporate, fund administration and private client trust business on the Island. She began her career in accountancy with Ernst & Young in 1991, has worked in the corporate and funds industry for over 20 years and has extensive experience of administering and accounting for complex investment structures. Between leaving Ogier as group director and partner, and joining Vistra, Jane worked as a consultant to the States of Jersey, chief minister\'s department as part of the team considering the proposed changes to Jersey’s regulatory environment for the funds industry. Jane has also held senior positions with Kleinwort Benson, Deutsche bank and Gartmore. Jane is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant.  

Anthony Thompson, head of private client, Wragge Lawrence Graham

Anthony joined Lawrence Graham as an associate in 1986 and was made partner in 1993, maintaining his role when the firm merged with Wragge & Co in early 2014. Anthony has focused his career on working with high net worth clients for over 25 years and has solid experience in designing structures to meet their and their family’s needs. Much of Anthony’s work involves advising individuals and families on their international estate planning, which includes advice on trust structuring, succession planning, family governance, residence, domicile and UK taxation.

Rhoddy Voremberg, head of private client department, Farrer & Co

Rhoddy is head of Farrer & Co’s private client department, where he specialises in trusts, tax and succession advice, introducing family governance strategies to minimise conflict and maximise wealth preservation for future generations. He is a trustee and a trusted adviser to many landed estates and the families that own them. Rhoddy is chairman of the tax committee of the Estates Business Group and also sits on the taxation and political committee of the Historic Houses Association; the Committee of the Land Trusts Association; the Charity Law Association; and STEP. He is described as “as an expert in his field with an extremely high profile in private client work.”

Wendy Walton, head of private client, BDO

A previous 50 Most Influential winner, Wendy is the national head of private clients based in BDO’s London office. After joining BDO in 1987, she specialises in providing tax advice to wealthy individuals and their families. Wendy deals with UK and international families with complex tax issues that support the clients’ overall family wealth and succession objectives. Nick Warr, partner and head of international private wealth, Taylor Wessing

Nick is a partner in the private client group and head of the international private wealth group. He specialises in advising ultra high net worth individuals, with particular expertise in advising individuals from the financial industry on all aspects of their personal and corporate structuring, and families with interests mainly on fiscal and succession planning.
