The Formula One boss Berine Ecclestone has gone to court to challenge a £1 billion tax bill from HMRC.
The bill covers the period from the tax year ended 5 April 1996 to tax year ending 5 April 2006. Mr Ecclestone, who has run Formula One as a fiefdom since a schism in the early 1980s between rival groups, has got his lawyers to apply for permission to seek a judicial review.
His advisers have argued that since a 2008 settlement, HMRC should not attempt assessments again.
