Global ultra wealthy ‘hold $3 trillion in own homes'

Nearly $3 trillion of the world\'s private wealth is held in owner-occupied residential properties, whose value rose eight percent last year, a new report by Sotheby\'s International Realty showed.

Of the 211,275 ultra high net worth (UHNW) individuals – defined as those with $30 million and above in net assets – in the world, owned on average 2.7 homes.

More than seven percent of the world\'s UHNW population made their wealth through real estate, up from five percent in 2013, the report found.
