Help for the self-employed announced but not without hint of tax sting in the tail

Having promised the self-employed “have not been forgotten,” UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a series of support measures yesterday (27/03/20), effectively putting them on a “level playing field” with the employed work force.

But he did not miss the opportunity to hint at higher taxes for the self-employed in the future.

In his own words, Mr Sunak’s “fair, targeted and deliverable plan” will be worth up to £2,500 per month for three months and will be paid in a single lump sum in June, but it could be earlier if the Government can establish the process sooner. Notably, he also gave a four week window ...
