HMRC issues several financial institution notices

A freedom of information act made by law firm CMS's tax disputes & investigations team has revealed that HMRC has already issued several financial institutions with a new type of request for taxpayers' financial information.

Financial institution notices (FIN) are a new measure that allows HMRC to obtain access to taxpayer data held by financial institutions. FIN allows HMRC to demand taxpayer information from a financial institution without obtaining tax tribunal approval....
