Premier League footballers and clubs are to be investigated by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) over claims they enjoy a number of 'secret perks' which should be subject to tax.
Gifts such as holidays and luxury accommodation will be checked, along with whether they match the financial statements provided by players. Insurance, company cars and entertainment for footballers, as well as family members and friends, will also be monitored.
HMRC has already conducted a number of interviews with finance directors at various clubs and have learned more about the handouts that are routinely made to players.
