HMRC may use AI to catch Wimbledon entrepreneurs

HMRC inspectors will almost certainly be using the tax agency's artificial intelligence system Connect to check extra earnings budding entrepreneurs might make out of Wimbledon and other summer sporting events this year, according to accountancy, tax and advisory practice Blick Rothenberg.

Connect automatically collects information from over 30 databases including details of salaries, bank accounts, loans, property and car ownership and allows HMRC to look at taxpayers’ daily activities. HMRC can also request bulk data from third parties if there is cause for concern.
