HMRC’s cryptocurrency tax treatment introduced without law

HMRC has updated its guidance on the tax treatment of cryptocurrencies, but the UK government still has not issued any legislation underpinning it, tax and advisory firm Blick Rothenberg has warned.

Nimesh Shah, chief executive at the firm, said it’s “disappointing” that there is no legislation from the government on this area. Instead they have left it to HMRC to decide how cryptocurrency transactions should be treated.
