Later life marriages bucking trend in latest ONS statistics

Older generations are continuing to get married and defy a decline in marriage rates, according to new statistics.

The research, published this month (12 September) by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), show a continued decline in marriages and rising divorce rates bar one age group: The over-70s.

Overall the proportion of those who are married aged 70 plus has gone from 50.3 percent in 2008 to 55.8 percent in 2018.
